Location: Primarily based at Nairobi War Cemetery, with regular site visits across Kenya

Contract type: Fixed Term Contract (12 months)

Salary: Ksh.204,725 per month depending on experience

Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Who we are:

The Commonwealth Heritage Forum (CHF), in partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), is seeking a dedicated Heritage Training Champion to support heritage preservation and capacity-building projects across Kenya. This is a unique opportunity for a heritage professional with strong technical, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills to play a key role in safeguarding significant sites and enabling local training opportunities.

The Commonwealth Heritage Forum is a charity that enables the sharing of expertise, best practice, and technical solutions to common conservation problems with a view to helping communities find creative solutions for heritage at risk. The charity supports urban regeneration, skills development, education, and youth training across the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is an organisation dedicated to honouring and caring for the graves and memorials of the men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two World Wars.

Key Responsibilities

As the Heritage Training Champion, you will act as the primary CHF liaison in Kenya, building strong local relationships while leading feasibility studies and stakeholder engagement for heritage and training projects nationwide. You will provide technical guidance, complete structural condition surveys, maintain organised project records, and ensure Health & Safety standards are upheld, including reporting accidents or near misses. The role also involves regular travel within Kenya and overseas, managing materials for restoration work, supporting the development of Conservation Management Plans, and promoting sustainability across all project activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline (such as Architecture, Heritage Conservation, History,
  • Engineering, Archaeology, Built environment disciplines)
  • High computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Experience in heritage conservation, construction, architecture, surveying, or a related field
  • Experience in conducting research, surveys or documentation of heritage sites
  • Experience engaging with communities, organisations or public groups
  • A valid passport is required
  • A valid driver’s licence is not essential, but would be beneficial
