BARBADOS PM PLEDGES FUNDS TO SUPPORT HERITAGE

The Commonwealth Heritage Forum is particularly delighted to hear that the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, has pledged funds to support heritage tourism on the Island. This was one of the main recommendations from the Commonwealth Heritage Forum's Conference of the Islands held in Barbados in February 2022.
Adapting and re-using existing buildings is inherently sustainable and vital for addressing the challenges of climate change and through our Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Commonwealth Heritage Skills Training Programme, the Commonwealth Heritage Forum stands ready to help. The central aim of our Programme is to train local people to become the heritage champions of the future, building local capacity and resilience, whilst helping to secure the future of important but threatened buildings and sites across the Commonwealth.
We hope that other Caribbean countries will now follow suit and invest funds in their historic buildings and places to reinforce and diversify their tourism offer.
